NOSTALGIA

nos·tal·gia/näˈstaljÉ™/noun: 1.A sentimental longing for the past, typically for a period or place with happy personal associations. 2.The evocation of these feelings or tendencies, esp. in commercialized form.

Imagine my suprise today when I ran into the first book I ever read...

The Little Red Hen and grains of wheat was the first book I learnt to read in Grade 1 in 1980.  This darling came come (looks like I need to learn how to spell again :-) home with me and is going to join the family of many other special books in my collection.

FREE SPIRIT

This is Savannah - a true beauty from the inside and out.  She loves the outdoors and can name and identify all the wildlife on the game farm where she lives.  Truly a free-spirited child and an absolute pleasure to spend time with.
This layout was created using the new Enmarc http://www.enmarc.co.za/ stencils and Dazzle spray which created the 'chicken wire' detail on the background.  The chipboard frames, swirls and birdie element in the bottom left hand corner is also an Enmarc product.

TIMELESS BEAUTY

So blessed am I to be surrounded by such beauty, in the form of my friends children.  Tamryn just shy of six years old, is an absolute doll.  It is such a honour to photograph and spend time with such a beautiful child.

MOTHERS' DAY MARKET ON THE FARM

Come and browse the shops on the farm and the many stalls this Saturday ahead of Mothers' Day for that special gift for Mom.

THESE BOOTS...

... are made for taking awesome photographs and creating decadent scrapbook layouts!!!

My little friend Mikayla recently had her ninth birthday and when browsing the shops for the perfect gift for her, I saw these awesome boots at Woolworths.  Of course before she received them I had snap some shots of them and then convince her to let me do a photoshoot with her.

Watch this space for the layout...

CHANGE THE WORLD - A.R.K.

Many would think what a crazy statement or question.  I am one person in a world of billions of people, with authorities and governments, that make things impossible for one person to change.

Everyone has the power to make a change and it can start with you by 'ACTS OF RANDOM KINDNESS'.

I entered a design competition for Enmarc Crafts and was inspired by the photographs that I had taken of a little kitten about 3 years ago, that was found by some school children, who found it trapped under some rubble.  That very day the kitten got a loving home and it's little world was changed forever.

The Basic Grey Plumeria range of paper and Enmarc Crafts swirls were used for this layout.

WONDER (DANDYLION)

I created this layout with the Prima Pixie Glen range of paper and there is so many elements on the papers which I cut out to use to create dimension.  The photographs are of a dandylion in my garden which I photographed sometime ago.  The illusion of the dandylion being blown by the wind was created with the OLBA tiny punches, treated to a bit of bling and stuck down at the base and bent up to create the illusion of movement.

The beautiful poem on the RHS of the layout goes like this:

I have a vision where all people are at peace, fed and housed,
Every child is loved and educated to develop their talents,
Where the heart is more important than the head and wisdom is revered over riches.

In this world justice, equality and fairness rule.

Nature is honoured, so that the waters flow pure and clear and the air is fresh and clean.

Plants and trees are nurtured and all animals are respected and treated with kindness.

Happiness and laughter prevail and humans walk hand in hand with angels.

Thank you for the love, understanding, wisdom, courage and humility to do my part to spread the light.

May all the world ascend.

So be it.

MOONLIGHT MARKET 30 MARCH 2012

Happy (albeit out of focus) Kiddy Snaps

These are some of the special 'little people' in my life, Musa, Thomas, Mikayla, Ricardo and Ciara.  Missing are Tiago and Lia.

Whilst I was lurking in the bushes at my friends birthday party getting great snaps of the festivities the children caught my attention, but alas they saw me in the bushes and that was the end of the natural and unposed photographs, and then began the face-pulling, sullen expressions synomanous of a deer being caught in the headlights.  And also the 'let me see, let me see' demands after each photograph is taken.

Then much to my dismay they wanted to take the photographs, my stomach turned and my heart pounded, my beautiful, precious camera in the hands of these children.  However, I conceded and after careful instruction on keeping the strap around their necks, fingers off the lens, and trying to explain the 'little green square and the half press of the button to get the photo into focus, these were the results of our future photographers ranging in age from 5, 8, 9, 10 and 13.

THE ART OF RELAXATION

Over the past few months my Wonderful Husband constructed a porch on the outside of our house. This sanctuary overlooks the wetland behind our house and because of the slope of the property it is quite high in the trees. My furry children love spending time with us up there and are quite comfortable on the day beds.

The layout was contructed from cardstock and Kaizer Kraft Lil Primrose collection and embellished with Enmarc crafts chipboard pieces.

PRIMA PIXIE GLEN CREATION

Enthusiasm personified - this is Helen.  Anything that I suggest she do for her creations is met with an abundance of enthusiasm and excitement on her part.  Just recently I helped Helen design and create a layout of her granddaughter Gabriella using the Prima Pixie Glen range of paper.  Again a number of elements were cut out from the paper and used with great results, creating awesome dimension on the layout.  I just love the soft, subtle colours of this range and the photograph is suited perfectly.

HOW MUCH IS THAT DOGGIE...

... in the teacup?

Not only is Glyn a wonderful person but she has this incredible talent of making the most of her pages and cuts out everything she possibly can on the page to enhance her layout.   Whilst most of my clients complain bitterly about this technique (however, pleased they are with the result), Glyn is at her happiest with a pair of scissors in her hand and cuts away at her page, watching her is like seeing someone conduct an orchestra - she does it with such passion and precision.

In her latest creation I assisted Glyn in creating an awesome layout of her little treasure J'Adore, a minature Toy French Poodle - who literally fits into a teacup!!!  Intricate cutting and clever use of the elements on the Kaizer Kraft Lil Primrose paper, together with lots of layering really brought the layout to life.

PACK YOUR BAGS...

... and get yourself onboard the journey to complete your travel albums :-)

I have been honoured to create a layout with the new range of awesome paper aptly entitled around the world, and laser cutouts from Scrap Collections (www.scrapcollections.co.za).

This is quite an interactive page, ie the right hand side of the layout rotates to reveal four different photographs through the yellow circle.  The 'indexed' pocket on the left hand page contains additional space and cards for journalling, memrobellia, photographs, etc.
